About

As Christians, we have a double biblical mandate to work on climate change.

  1. We are commanded to care for God’s creation because He made it and loves it, and a stable climate system is part of God’s creation, vital to the existence of those He has made.
  2. We are commanded to love our neighbour, the poor and vulnerable among us, who will be disproportionately impacted by the effects of climate change and biodiversity loss.

As a church, one of the ways we will be responding to The United Nations Global Climate Change Conference (AKA COP26) is in prayer. We are inviting everyone at Emmaus Rd to set aside at least one hour to pray between Monday 8th and Sunday 14th November, the last week of the conference. Sign up for an hour slot here and closer to the time of your slot you will receive a guide with some resources and a virtual prayer wall to help you pray whilst at home, on a walk or on a run.

From 1st – 7th November, we encourage you to follow the Climate Justice week on Lectio 365.

PS.

We had been planning to use our refurbished Founders Prayer Room for our prayer week to coincide with COP26, but unfortunately recent heavy rain storms have resulted in Founders Carport and the adjacent Prayer Room being flooded twice.  This has happened because the main drains in the road outside Founders have been unable to cope with a sudden large volume of water and have ended up back flooding into Founders which is at a low point in the road. Unfortunately the situation is out of our hands but Surrey County Council are now looking at what can be done to improve the drainage.
